Aztec Sun Design
Each student created their own half-Aztec sun design using fluorescent tempera paint and outlined their designs with a permanent marker. Each half of a sun matched up with another student's half-sun. The features could be distinctly different, but they should be in line with one another.

Helpful Hints:
- To introduce the lesson, we discussed the history of the original Aztec sun stone and why it is such a major symbol in Mexican culture.
- We talked about the possible symbols the students could used to make each sun design unique. We also discussed organic and geometric shapes/lines, and color theory.
- A major goal of the assignment was to fill the entire page with colors, patterns and shapes. We used large 18"x24" manilla paper, and the students were told that none of the manilla paper should be showing.
- This is a great project to do towards the end of the year when the students are losing motivation. I told the students to stick with using mostly fluorescent paint. These paintings looked great hung up and really brightened up the entire school.
